How long can a LinkedIn voice message be?
By Tirth Shah, founder of Bub · Updated
A LinkedIn voice message can be up to one minute long. That's LinkedIn's limit in its mobile app, and Bub, which records voice messages from a laptop, stops just under it too. For anything longer, send a video instead.
Add Bub to Chrome, it's freeThe best length for a LinkedIn voice note
Just because you have a minute doesn't mean you should use it. A note that's obviously short gets played; one that looks long gets saved for later, which usually means never.
- 20 to 40 seconds for a first voice note or a follow-up.
- Up to a minute when you're answering a question they asked.
- Longer than that, send a video: you can show your screen and it can run for minutes.
How to fit what you need into under a minute
- Open with their name and why you're messaging them, in one sentence.
- Make one point, not three.
- End with one easy question.
- Don't read a script word for word. Jot three bullet points and talk.
Questions
Is the LinkedIn voice message limit 60 seconds?
Yes. LinkedIn voice messages can be up to one minute long.
What happens when I hit the limit?
Recording stops at the limit, and you can send what you have or record again.
Can I send a longer audio message?
Not as a LinkedIn voice message. You can attach an audio file, but it arrives as a file to download. A video message is the better way to send something longer.
Does the limit apply on desktop too?
LinkedIn's website can't record voice messages at all. With Bub, a free Chrome extension, you can record them on desktop, up to the same one-minute limit.
