Privacy Policy

Bub (“Bub”, “we”, “us”) is a free Chrome extension that adds voice notes, native video and saved snippets inside LinkedIn’s message box, plus the Bub inbox, a web app for your LinkedIn messages (Bub Pro). This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. Questions? Email tirth@heybub.so.

The short version

• Your LinkedIn messages never touch our servers. Your conversations, connections, invitations and the profiles of people you talk to are read from LinkedIn inside your own browser and kept on your device. They are not uploaded to Bub.
• Bub doesn’t automate anything. Bub never sends a message, archives a conversation, accepts or ignores an invitation, or connects with anyone on its own. Every action on LinkedIn happens only when you click a button or press a key.
• We never see your LinkedIn password or cookies, and we never use proxies or log in to LinkedIn on your behalf.

Your LinkedIn data and the Bub inbox

LinkedIn has no public inbox API, so the extension lets the Bub inbox talk to LinkedIn through your own signed-in browser, the same way linkedin.com does. Messages, connections, invitations and profile details travel from LinkedIn to your browser and are cached on your device (in your browser’s local storage) so the inbox opens instantly. Uninstalling the extension or clearing your browser data removes that cache.

To keep your work in sync across your computers, we store only what you create in Bub:

• labels you create, and which conversations or people carry them;
• stars and reminder times you set on a conversation;
• notes you write about a person;
• snippets you save, including any voice note or video you choose to save as a snippet;
• your inbox settings;
• the name, photo and public profile handle of the LinkedIn account you connect, so we can manage your workspace’s inboxes and billing.

Labels, stars, reminders and notes are linked to LinkedIn’s identifier for the conversation or person, never to a copy of the conversation. The inbox’s Analytics page counts your activity in your browser and saves only daily totals (for example, messages sent and replies received), never message content.

While Bub is in the background, the extension checks LinkedIn for new messages every few minutes so it can show you a desktop notification. That check only reads; it never sends or changes anything, and you can turn it off in Settings › Preferences.

What we collect

• Account details. When you create an account, we store your email and name (and, if you add one, your avatar) to sign you in and personalize the app.
• Usage events. When you send a voice note or video, use AI rewrite, or expand a snippet, we record the action, a timestamp, and the workspace it belongs to. This powers your XP, level, streak, and stats. We do not record the words in your messages or the audio/video of your recordings.
• Text you give an AI feature. When you use an AI feature, such as typing a reminder time in your own words (“after my call on Thursday”), only the text you typed into that feature is sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) and the answer is returned to you. We don’t store that text after the request completes.
• Camera & microphone. Used only in your browser to create a recording. The finished recording is sent directly to LinkedIn when you press send. Bub does not upload, host, or store your recordings, unless you choose to save one as a snippet so you can reuse it.
• Anonymous device identifier. If you use Bub before signing in, we keep a random identifier in your browser to apply free-usage limits. It isn’t tied to your identity.
• Billing. If you buy Bub Pro, payment is handled by Stripe. We keep your plan, number of inboxes and subscription status, never your card details.
• Basic technical data. To keep the service reliable and prevent abuse we process limited request metadata (for example, a hashed form of your IP address for rate limiting). We do not store raw IP addresses.

How we use it

• To provide and improve the tools inside your LinkedIn composer.
• To run gamification (XP, levels, streaks) and show you your stats.
• To sync your labels, notes, snippets and reminders across your devices.
• To answer requests you make to an AI feature.
• To manage your plan and billing.
• To secure the service, enforce usage limits, and prevent abuse.

We do not sell your personal data, and we don’t use your content to train AI models. Anthropic processes AI requests under its API terms and does not use API inputs to train its models.

Who we share it with

• Supabase — our database and authentication host, which stores your account and usage data on our behalf.
• Anthropic — processes the text you type into an AI feature.
• Stripe — processes payments for Bub Pro.
• LinkedIn — where you choose to send your notes, videos, and messages. Your use of LinkedIn is governed by LinkedIn’s own terms and privacy policy. Bub is not affiliated with or endorsed by LinkedIn.

We may also disclose data if required by law or to protect the service and its users.

Retention

We keep account and usage data while your account is active. You can ask us to delete your account and associated data at any time by emailing tirth@heybub.so. Some records may be retained where required for legal or security reasons.

Your choices & rights

• Access, correct, or delete your data by contacting us.
• Revoke camera/microphone access at any time in your browser settings.
• Turn off new-message notifications in Settings › Preferences.
• Uninstall the extension to stop all local processing.
• Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (for example under GDPR or the CCPA). Contact us to exercise them.

Cookies

The web app uses strictly necessary cookies to keep you signed in. We don’t use advertising cookies.

Children

Bub is for professional use and is not intended for anyone under 18.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. We’ll change the “last updated” date above and, for material changes, provide additional notice.
