LinkedIn saved replies and message templates
By Tirth Shah, founder of Bub · Updated
LinkedIn doesn't let members save replies or message templates, even with Premium. It only offers Smart Replies, short suggestions like "Thanks!". To reuse your own messages, use a text expander, or Bub's free snippets: save a message once, then insert it into any LinkedIn chat with a shortcut, with the person's name and company filled in.
Add Bub to Chrome, it's freeWhat LinkedIn offers, and what it doesn't
| Feature | Notes | |
|---|---|---|
| Smart Replies | Yes | Short automatic suggestions, not your own text |
| Saved replies / templates for members | No | Not on free or Premium |
| Templates in LinkedIn Recruiter | Yes | Part of LinkedIn's paid recruiting product |
| Bub snippets inside LinkedIn's message box | Free | Your own messages, with variables like {{first_name}} |
How to use saved replies in LinkedIn with Bub
- Add Bub to Chrome. Install the free extension.
- Save a snippet. Write the message once and give it a short name. Add variables like {{first_name}}, {{short_name}}, {{company}} or {{job_title}} where you want them filled in.
- Insert it in any chat. In a LinkedIn conversation, press ⌘⇧S on Mac (Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows), or type /s in the message box, and pick the snippet.
- Personalize and send. The variables fill in from their profile. Tweak a line so it's clearly about them, then send.
In the Bub inbox, type ; in the message box to insert a snippet. Teammates in your workspace can share snippets.
What makes a good saved reply
- Save the parts you retype every day: intros, scheduling replies, pricing answers, follow-ups.
- Leave a gap to personalize. A snippet should get you 80 percent of the way, not send itself.
- Use {{short_name}} for a friendly greeting: Jun-jie (Jay) Lee becomes Jay.
- Keep a few short versions instead of one long one.
